A WREXHAM man who was driving under the influence made a ‘big mistake’, a court heard.
Craig Roberts, 29, of John Wilkinson Court in Brymbo, pleaded guilty at North East Wales Magistrates Court at Mold to driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol when he was stopped by police officers on October 25.
Wyn Jones, prosecuting, said just before midnight on October 24, Roberts was driving a Seat Ibiza on Llangollen Road when a police officer followed him because of the ‘speed it was travelling’.
Despite being co-operative with the office, Roberts was found to be over the legal limit of drugs and alcohol.
The court heard how Roberts is a ‘man of good character’ who ‘made a big mistake’ and is ‘extremely remorseful’.
Roberts had been drinking that day but was ‘surprised’ to learn he had cocaine in his system as he had ‘not taken any that day’.
The court heard how he has ‘no issues with drink or drugs’ and is a ‘hard working family man’.
Roberts, who also volunteers with his local football team, was ordered to pay a fine of £346 for driving over the limit of alcohol and £85 costs with £34 surcharge.
He also received a 12-month driving ban.
For driving over the limit of drugs, he received a fine of £346 and a 12-month disqualification to run concurrently.
