THE Co-op petrol station and food store in Coedpoeth has launched following a multi-million pound programme to overhaul, rebuild and replace the site’s infrastructure.
An investment of nearly £2.5 million was made to extend the food store, and to replace the tanks, pumps, forecourt and canopy of the fuel filling station.
It is hoped that the extension to the food store will provide customers with an enhanced range and choice to better serve the community and visitors to the area.

Located on the High Street in Coedpoeth, the new, larger, store supports up to 20 local jobs, and includes increased customer car parking, coffee and an in-store bakery.
These have gone alongside Co-op’s existing focus on fresh foods, food-to-go, award-winning wines, everyday essentials, and, the Co-op’s exclusive new vegan brand, GRO.
Eddie Jenkinson, National Fuels Manager, Co-op, said: “We are delighted to have had the opportunity to make further significant investment in North Wales.
“In overhauling the petrol filling station and enhancing the food store in Coedpoeth to better serve the needs of the local community, we are confident that the re-development and enhanced offer and facilities will benefit both the community and visitors to the area.”
Clywd Davies, the Coedpoeth Co-op Store Manager, said: “The store has a great new-look and range. It is our aim to establish the store at the heart of local life and contribute to local community life.
“It’s all about getting closer to our members and customers, providing what they want, need and care about, conveniently.
“We would like to thank our members and customers for their patience and understanding during the closure and extensive works – it is a major investment in the infrastructure which significantly enhances our offer locally to better serve the community moving forward.
“We are looking forward to welcoming customers old and new into the store. We also want customers to know that they can become a co-owner and member of their Co-op, and that the Co-op gives back to its Members and the community.
“Our Members help us to make a difference locally, raising money for local causes simply by swiping their Membership card when they shop with us.”
The store also brings a funding boost through the Co-op’s Membership scheme, where members receive a 5 per cent reward when they purchase own brand products and services, with the Co-op giving a further 1 per cent to local causes.
Meanwhile, students holding the TOTUM card (the new name for NUS extra) can now also pocket a 10 per cent discount off their shopping in Co-op.
To mark St David’s Day, the newly opened store will have leeks and potatoes – from Pembrokeshire-based award-winning fresh produce provider Blas-Y-Tir – and Welsh grown Daffodils on special offer in-store between February 12 and March 4.
