A WREXHAM school has celebrated after pupils win a writing competition.
Pupils at Ysgol Maes-y-Llan were contacted, along with 150 other primary schools across North Wales, and invited by the Wales Rugby Union to enter a writing competition.
The task set by the WRU was to: Write a motivational speech that would be intended to be delivered to the Welsh Rugby team prior to them playing an International Game.
Headteacher Phil Hamilton said: "We were delighted to receive a call from a WRU representative who informed us that our Year 6 class were placed as runners up and our Year 5 class were competition winners.
"Our children will now spend Friday, January 31 at Parc Eirias completing challenges and activities linked with the new curriculum before meeting the Wales U20 and Italy U20 squads who are kicking off the Six Nations Under 20 tournament that evening.
"Our children will also be forming a guard of honour for the players and some of the motivational speeches will be read out and/or displayed on the big screen onsite.
"The match will also be televised lived by BBC Wales and S4C so our children are very excited about making a TV appearance too.
"We are very proud of our children's achievements and I am very proud of the staff who support them."
