PUPILS and staff of a Flintshire school celebrated the opening of their new building by creating a time capsule.

The new multi-million pound Ysgol Penyffordd welcomed its first pupils in September.

Now, the drop off zone and new car park has been completed and this was marked recently by the burying of a time capsule and planting a tulip tree on the school site.

The school has taken time during the first term to celebrate their new school, including a community open day which was well attended and the new building was positively received by those who visited.

The new school is a three to 11 English medium community primary school on the Abbotts Lane site and includes classrooms to accommodate nursery, foundation phase and key stage one and two for 315 pupils as well as a hall and studio.

Councillor Ian Roberts, Flintshire Council’s leader and cabinet member for education and youth, said: “This is another milestone in the provision of the 21st Century Schools programme in Flintshire.

“This investment of almost £7 million provides a wonderful modern facility for children, young people and the wider community and provides a new inspirational learning experience for primary school children.”

Chris Wynne, managing director at Wynne Construction, said: “As a local North Wales contractor, we are very proud of the new Ysgol Penyfford project.

“Throughout the design and build process we worked very closely with team at Flintshire, the school team and the local community to ensure we met all their requirements and to complete the school on time.

“The positive feedback is great news for the team and testament for all their hard work.

“With the time capsule now buried, we hope it will provide a lasting legacy for the village along with the school building itself.”
