A MOTORIST who overturned his car on the way to McDonald's was twice over the drink drive limit.
David McGee, 35, of Coleshill Street, Holywell admitted driving with an alcohol level above the limit on September 21 this year when he appeared before North East Wales Magistrates’ Court.
Prosecutor Helen Hall said police attended the scene of an accident on the A5026 at Holywell and found McGee’s Volvo was on its roof.
McGee admitted being the driver and a roadside breath test proved positive.
The defendant required treatment at hospital where he also underwent a blood test which provided a reading of 162mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood; the legal limit is 80.
McGee told police he had drunk six pints of lager in Holywell, but he was barred from re-entering the Boars Head pub by a steward after popping out for a smoke.
So he went to sit inside his car and then decided to go to McDonald's to buy some food.
On the way he attempted to make way for an oncoming car but clipped the bank and flipped his vehicle, regaining consciousness when the police were peering in through a window. The court was told that McGee didn’t normally drink.
He was banned from the road for 20 months and fined £400. He also has to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £40.
