A COMMUNITY library has a replenished art supply thanks to a £500 donation from a locally based housing developer.
Hope Community Library started its craft sessions for children in the local area during school holidays, half terms and Saturday mornings in 2016.
However, due to its popularity, supplies had become very limited.
The library wanted to expand on not only supplies but to also create separate storage spaces with general craft supplies and themed spaces for holidays like Halloween and Christmas, to make things more accessible and inspiring for the children.
Hope Community Library volunteer Kate Williams heard about Redrow’s Penyffordd community fund from another library volunteer and took the opportunity to see if the Ewloe-based developer could help.
She said: “As the local library for Hope, Penyffordd, Penymynydd, Caergwrle, Cefn-y-bedd, Abermorddu and Kinnerton we create art and crafts events for a large number of local children and their families. As the attendance of the events grew, I realised we needed more supplies to ensure we could still offer the activities during the holidays.”
As a mum of three, Kate knows the challenge for parents when children are off school with nothing to do.
She added: “We wanted to make fun craft sessions for children from ages three to 11 to have the chance to explore their creative sides and also meet other children from the local areas and Redrow’s kind donation has allowed us to do that.”
Caroline Thompson-Jones, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (NW), says: “Groups such as this one are such a key part of local communities and they also help young children develop and make friends from young ages. With the activities being hosted in a library, it will also open their eyes to a whole world of books, something that has become increasingly important in today’s digital age.”
Redrow has shared a voluntary community fund of £10,000 for groups and good causes in Penymynydd and surrounding villages, with 14 projects selected to benefit.
