A YOUNG drink driver who was found in the street by police officers wearing only his swimming trunks had been to a hot tub party, a court heard.
Appearing at North East Wales Magistrates' Court, Jack Jones, 22, of Piercy Avenue, Marchwiel, Wrexham, admitted a drink driving charge after crashing his Renault Clio on New Hall Road, Ruabon.
Helen Tench, prosecuting, said it was at around 2.30am on July 27, when officers were responding to reports that a car was lying on its roof , that they found Jones and another man in the street wearing just their swimming trunks.
Jones admitted he had been driving the car at the time of the accident and said he had been drinking at a nearby hot tub party before he had decided to get in the vehicle.
He gave a reading of 67 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath with the legal limit set at 35 microgrammes.
Melissa Griffiths, defending, said Jones, who works full time as a business development executive, was "the author of his own misfortune and a very foolish young man".
She said he had drunk around five or six bottles of Budweiser before getting in his car which he had managed to drive around 500 yards when he clipped a wall, with the vehicle ending up on its roof.
There were no passengers in the car and Jones said he did not have a usable phone so had gone back to the party to get some assistance and was returning to the car, which was later written off, with a friend when the police picked him up.
Chair of the bench, Carol Lloyd, disqualified Jones from driving for 18 months and fined him £346. He will also pay £85 court costs and a victim surcharge of £34.
