AN ABSTRACT artist travelled from London to witness her painting being unveiled at the Countess of Chester Hospital.
Sara Riaz Khan, accompanied by daughter Aalia, wanted to recognise all the work over nearly 30 years of the Chester Childbirth Appeal in its support of the Women’s and Children’s department.
The painting now has pride of place in the Christopher Wing, originally built thanks to parents Tim and Gill Worrall to provide en suite accommodation for parents of very ill children being cared for on the Children’s ward, enabling them to stay near their child.
It was also a special occasion for senior paediatrician Dr John Gibbs who retires at the end of this month who received the painting Succour on behalf of the hospital.
About 60 guests – members of staff on the health park and supporters of the charity – attended the occasion in the Comfort Zone which was supported by the Lord Mayor of Chester, Cllr Mark Williams and his wife Denise, and the Mayor of Ellesmere Port, Cllr Michael Edwardson. Indian cuisine was provided by Jayshree Hirani and Sarla Jatangia.
Pat Daniels MBE, founder member of the appeal in 1991, said: “It is always rewarding to be able to give some good news concerning our valued local hospital, the Countess of Chester NHS Foundation Trust, whose staff work so hard for the benefit of our community.
“We were honoured by the visit from the esteemed abstract artist Sara Riaz Khan.”
Mrs Daniels, on behalf of the appeal, presented a cheque for £1,200 to enable 20 midwives to be trained in the art of aromatherapy for the benefit of expectant mothers.
