STAFF at a children's nursery in Wrexham are to go on on strike.

Workers at Peter Pan Children’s Nursery based on Croesnewydd Road, near Wrexham town centre have unanimously voted for strike action over their employer’s refusal to recognise Unite the Union, to negotiate employees terms and conditions including pay.

The members of Unite, Britain and Ireland’s largest trade union, have voted unanimously to take strike action over a three day period following SHAP Limited, the owners of the nursery, refusing to negotiate with Unite.

Unite Regional Officer Jo Goodchild said; “Our members, who are predominately nursery nurses, have voted by 100 per cent to strike as they face the prospect of their employer denying their right to have a trade union of their choice representing them.

"Unite believes that SHAP’s refusal to recognise us is a blatant attempt to deny employees and our members a strong voice in their workplace.

"Strike action may, regrettably mean disruption to childcare arrangements for those employees of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, who utilise the service of the nursery.

"Unite however are still prepared to discuss recognition with SHAP to resolve the dispute and are awaiting for them respond.”
