NEW lighting is making a difference in helping to monitor Wrexham town centre.
Wrexham Council's new LED lighting is not only making energy savings it is also helping out our CCTV operators who now have a brighter view when it is dark.
The authority has spent £70,000 on installing LED street lights in the town centre and are now identifying other areas to benefit from this type of energy efficient lighting.
Lead member for environment and transport, Cllr David A Bithell, said: “It’s brilliant to know that the LED lighting is improving community safety by giving CCTV operators a very clear view.
Cllr Hugh Jones lead member for communities, partnerships, public protection and community safety added: “CCTV is a great help when we are looking at community safety and the LED lighting has had the added bonus of complementing the system by brightening up the images.
"It’s practically daylight in some areas which is will help any prosecution following recorded incidents.”
