A PRIVATE medical practice has made a new scanning service available for pregnant women.
Simon Rushton, managing director of Grosvenor Medical Ltd in Wrexham, announced that his practice had bought the assets belonging to the former Wrexham-based private ultrasound company First Glimpse, which has now ceased trading.
The scanning facilities and technology have now been moved into Grosvenor Medical’s facility at Croesnewydd Hall and their new service providing a private 3D/4D pregnancy scanning service is now up and running.
Mr Rushton, from Penycae, said he was keen to ensure patients knew the facility was operational and that he had a keen interest in the service ever since they helped his family during the premature birth of his nephew.
Mr Rushton, 28, said: “Seven years ago my nephew was born and he was extremely lucky to survive.
“His mother, my sister-in-law, was very concerned so she went to Wrexham Maelor Hospital at the weekend but was told that there was nobody available to see her at the time.
“They asked her to go back on Monday but I wasn’t happy with that so I paid for her to have a scan done privately and based on the results of that scan, we took her back to the Maelor and my nephew was delivered shortly afterwards by C-section.
“If we hadn’t had the scan done, it’s likely Tomos wouldn’t have survived.”
Speaking about the new service, Mr Rushton added: “This is a truly exciting project and an absolute honour to be sharing one of the most significant experiences a woman and family can have.
“We are confident our bespoke service will provide expecting mothers and families with an experience and memories they will cherish for many years to come.”
Mr Rushton added that the company is now looking into new uses for the recently acquired technology beyond just doing scans for pregnant women, including applying it to men’s health for identifying conditions such as testicular cancer.
Mr Rushton said: “We want the service to be available to people locally to give assurance to mothers in the area, as well as relieving the pressure on the NHS.
“We are further developing the service to offer not only pregnancy ultrasound scans but also general radiological investigations to compliment our executive health assessments and private men’s health clinic by screening for testicular and prostate cancers and abdominal aortic aneurysms.”
