WREXHAM was gripped with “Dynamania” as thousands of people surrounded a supermarket to get a view of the TV magician.

People queued up outside Asda’s store on Holt Road from 6am to see the magician who has rocketed to fame through his tv show Dynamo: Magician Impossible.

As traffic struggled to get to the store’s packed car park , queues of cars could be seen backing up along Powell Road as people tried to get a glimpse of the Bradford-born star.

There was pandemonium as chants of “Dynamo” rang out and people banged on windows and squeezed right up to the doors as the man himself walked into view.

The supermarket even had to close its doors due to the sheer volume of crowds attending.

One group from Wrexham were first in line for a special show where Dynamo showed of his tricks with cards and coins as well as signing autographs and handing out pictures.

Kim Weaver, 47, from Wrexham brought her family to see their hero.

She said: “We are all great fans of Dynamo and we all watch his show on TV. We were so excited to meet him and it was just brilliant, well worth the wait.”

Mum Winnie Tang, who brought her four-year-old son along, said: “It was amazing to see him close up and get to meet him.

“I made a wish last year on his fan page he would come to Wrexham and here he is.

“He is an absolute star and really friendly and I can’t wait to put our pictures up on Facebook.”

Speaking exclusively to the Leader Dynamo – real name Steven Frayne – said: “It is amazing to come to Wrexham and see how many people have showed up. I didn’t know I had this many fans in Wrexham.

“It’s been great to be here and meet all the people who came out to see me.”

People travelled from far and wide, travelling from as far as Anglesey, Liverpool and Manchester.

One family who travelled from Mold said it was well worth the wait.

Maxine Smart, who brought her son Cameron, 13, and niece Paige Jones, 10, said: “We love him and are all really big fans, we watch his show every week.

“It is a nice experience for the young ones to meet someone famous who they find fascinating and it has been brilliant.”

Kelsey Davies, 17, was lucky enough to be part of a trick.

She said: “It was amazing.

“He had a 20p and a 1p and placed them in my hand and asked me to squeeze tight, then the 1p had vanished out of my hand and into his, I don’t know how he did it.”

Some fans were left disappointed as they couldn’t get to see Dynamo due to the number of people who had shown up, but they did get a glimpse as he went out into the crowd and did a magic trick for them.

Dynamo came as part of a competition run by Pepsi. Buckets were left for donations to be made to Nightingale House Hospice.

But some shoppers were annoyed the store was closed for the whole time Dynamo was there.

An Asda spokesman said: “We would like to apologise to any of our customers who were affected by the crowds that flocked to see Dynamo. We clearly underestimated the power of Dynamo - although even he couldn’t make the crowds disappear.”
