BEN HENEGHAN wouldn’t consider signing for any National League club other than Chester.

The Blues centre-half, who is currently out of contract, has attracted interest from a number of Football League sides and is continuing to weigh up his next step.

Heneghan recently appeared in an England C international and has impressed everybody at Chester since signing for the club.

“I have received interest from a few clubs in the Football League, but I am only in the process of talking to them and haven’t received any offers,” Heneghan said. “I have had a number of conversations with Macca since last season and I know he and everyone at the club wants me to re-sign for Chester.

“I am currently weighing up all my options because I have to think about my future and trying to progress, but I would never consider signing for a National League club other than Chester.

“It’s a case of waiting and seeing what happens in terms of what will happen next, but I’m hoping something can be sorted out very soon.

“I have had quite a few clubs contacting me and wanting to have a chat, but that doesn’t mean anything until I receive an offer of a contract and that hasn’t happened yet.”

Heneghan has been linked with the likes of Brighton and Hove Albion, Blackburn Rovers, Burnley and Hull City, and has been watched by scouts from Motherwell, Hibernian, and Fleetwood.

Salford-born Heneghan began his career with Everton before switching to Premier League club Stoke City.

Following his release from the Britannia Stadium at the end of the 2013-14 season, he signed for Chester in August 2014 after impressing on trial.

He added: “I fully understand that Chester’s fans want me to stay, but I know that I have to do the right thing for me and I have to look at all of my options.

“I’m like every footballer in that I want to progress as high as I can and I’m sure all Chester fans appreciate the position I’m in.

“Chester have provided me with a platform to perform and to raise my prospects of making a step up to playing at a higher level and I’ll be forever grateful to the club for that.

“I know that everyone at Chester was really disappointed with the way that the team underachieved last season, but I was impressed with the way Macca and Sharpy managed to turn things round after Steve Burr left.”
