Colin Alfred Frankel

Published on 25/07/2022

FRANKEL Colin Alfred, "Col from the Mill" On 16 July 2022, peacefully passed away at home, Queen St, Cefn Mawr, surrounded by his nearest and dearest at the age of 74 years. On 14 May 1948, Bernard and Ruth Sylvia Frankel gave birth to their third and youngest son, Colin. Being the youngest of three boys was a fact that was never lost on Colin or indeed his two older brothers, Brian and Ronald. He attended Sutton Secondary School and eventually left academia as soon as humanly possible in 1963. Colin was a man of utility and a people person. He would "have a go" at most things without necessarily having to go through the rigmarole of obtaining the requisite experience or qualifications required. He married Frieda "Sal" Evans in 1971. From this marriage came his two greatest achievements, his daughters, Carol and Sarah. For a numbers of years he worked in the patents office in Holland. It is from this time in Holland that his grandchildren called him "Opa". Colin decided that because he'd spent so much time in a pub he could try his hand at becoming a pub landlord. With no prior experience, he bought the Mill Inn in 2000. For many years, the Mill remained a hub of the community and a focal point for the family - both blood and extended. He will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by his daughters, Carol, Sarah, grandchildren; Steven, Hannah, Connor, Sion, Arron, Osian, Cai, Eleri, Arwen, Eira, Ella, Gwydion, and great-grandchildren; Aidan, and Elyse. Colin will be sorely missed by his older brother, Brian. Colin will be laid to rest, donning his finest Hawaiian shirt, in a memorial ceremony which will be held on Monday, 8 August at 11am at Wrexham Crematorium, Pentre-Bychan Road, Rhostyllen, Wrexham LL14 4EP. Despite his own frugality, he was a man of community and charity and always willing to help out hardworking individuals or those in need. Colin's family ask for individuals to generously make donations to the Plas Madoc district nurses and heart failure team, who provided impeccable care and service on a shoestring budget. Just as Colin would love, the donations made will be put towards ensuring that the team have a night-off to let loose. A celebration of his life will continue in the Delph Bar and Restaurant, Bethania Rd, Acrefair, Wrexham LL14 3TR. In true Colin fashion there will be food, booze and booming the timeless classics.
