The Walk
1. From parking area at SJ 172 647 follow track for 385m before taking a left turn along the next bridleway for a further 235m past Cae Newydd on the right hand side. At this point take a right turn at the first track on the right and head towards the first field gate.
2. After going through the first gate, keep walking through the moorland towards the next gate, passing the reservoir on your left hand side.
Continue ahead through the gate, following the natural path. Crossing a small stream, continue ahead uphill following a relatively steep, zig-zagging path with great views either side.
3. Continue uphill until you get to the wooden footpath sign indicating where the path and bridleway cross each other. Take a right hand turn and the follow the bridleway on the right at the crossroads.
Follow the bridleway that skirts around the summit for nearly a kilometre. Where the paths fork, keep left and head straight up to the wooden gate at the stone wall.
4. Shortly after this gate take a left turn and follow the path for 450m to the spectacular summit of Moel Famau.
5. After enjoying the summit make your way in a northerly direction downhill towards a gate and stile and then walk along the path that skirts the woodland until you get to the path crossroads again.
6. Take a right turn at the path crossroads and head along the bridleway towards Ffrith Mountain for approximately 1.5km.
7. Take a sharp left turn before the gate and head along the bridleway past the property Castell on your left hand side. Negotiate the two field gates here and continue for another 500m towards the boardwalk.
8. After the boardwalk continue in a northerly direction downhill, crossing a culverted watercourse before heading past the property Cae Newydd again on the left hand side. After passing the property continue to the junction and take a right turn back along the same bridleway you started off on and back towards the parking area or continue on to the village of Cilcain.
