WELSH CUP winners Connah’s Quay Nomads have received even more good news.

Just days after they stunned treble-chasing The New Saints 2-1 in the showpiece final at Newport, Nomads have confirmed that Jack Kenny has agreed a new one-year deal with the club.

Kenny returned to Connah’s Quay in January 2023, having previously played for the club during the 2018/19 season.

He has been a key feature of The Nomads’ three-pronged attack featuring himself, Jordan Davies and Harry Franklin, with the trio accumulating 50 goals in all competitions over the course of the season just completed.

Kenny has scored 17 times in his 64 appearances for the club and he wull be a key figure when Nomads begin their tilt this summer in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

He told the club’s website: “I’m delighted to sign a new contract with the club. It’s been a successful year for everyone involved at Connah’s Quay Nomads Football Club with comfortably finishing in second place and winning the Welsh Cup final.

“The main objective was to qualify for Europe and we have been successful in achieving that. A lot of hard work on and off the pitch has taken place this year in order for us to achieve what we have achieved and lifting the trophy on Sunday was the perfect way to end a successful season.

“There is a real togetherness in the changing room and a great culture which is a huge reason for signing a new contract.

“Hopefully we can take the positives and successes from this year into next season and build on what we achieved this year.”

Team boss Neil Gibson has paid tribute to departing striker Michael Wilde after he helped the side to achieve Welsh Cup glory. Gibson told the FAW website: “I said it to him after the game, I can’t think of a better way for him to go out. He tends to write his own scripts, and fair play to him, because he is one of the best centre forwards that this league has ever produced.

“For him to understand the difference in his role this season, which was to help some of the younger players, and to have a part to play in some games off the bench, and for him to have 20 minutes on the pitch today and lift the trophy; he got everything he deserved and more.”

Wilde, who is bringing to an end his second spell with the club, added: “It’s a brilliant feeling. I’ve won this trophy a few times before, but this bunch of lads thoroughly deserve everything that they get and all the celebrations that go with it.

“We’ve worked hard all season, it doesn’t look it from a league point of view, but to get close to TNS is very difficult, but in a one-off game in a final over 90 minutes, we knew that we could do it, and the lads have shown it, and it was thoroughly deserved. Only one team looked like winning it today.”
