FLINT MOUNTAIN’S timing for going top of the Ardal North West League has been spot on.

Wednesday’s 5-1 win at Conwy Borough has put them two points clear at the top and another three points at Holyhead Hotspur will boost their chance of lifting the title.

Rob Hughes was Flint’s star man at Conwy with a hat-trick while Jack Sconce and substitute Joe Holt were also on the scoresheet for Aden Shannon’s side.

Rhyl 1879, in second spot, make the short trip to Conwy Borough tomorrow, while third-placed Llay Welfare go to Y Felinheli.

“We know what’s to play for going into these final games, and we’ll just be taking it game by game,” said Llay manager Mike Gadie, whose side have six matches left.

“Felinheli are scrapping for their lives down the bottom so this is going to be far from comfortable.

“We’ll be missing Dave MacIntyre through suspension which will be a massive loss to our team, but we have shown that the squad is more than capable of competing.”

Brickfield Rangers enjoyed a 2-0 win at Hawarden Rangers on Wednesday with Andy Vale and Noah Sumner on the scoresheet.

Brickfield go to Llannefydd tomorrow with boss Gareth Wilson pleased with the progress of the club’s youngsters, who have stepped up to the first team.

“It’s a positive that many of the excellent U17 and U19 players are stepping up and doing ever so well.”

Bottom-of-the-table Saltney Town host Bethesda Athletic, who lost 4-2 at Y Felinheli on Wednesday, while Hawarden Rangers head to Llangefni Town - beaten 2-0 at Nantlle Vale in midweek.

Llanrwst United host St Asaph City while in the Ardal North East League, Cefn Albion head to Llandrindod Wells on the back of a 2-1 derby win over Penycae.

Tom Smith scored and set up one for Alex Williams with Callum Smith replying from the spot.

Albion coach Ian Andrews, meanwhile, has revealed the club are likely to kick off next season at Clywedog Park but a move back to Cefn is planned for next season.

“We will probably start at Brickfield but the club are in the process of sorting out using the Muga pitch in Cefn,” he said.

“A few things need sorting at the ground to meet the criteria.”

Rhos Aelwyd make the trip to Llanrhaeadr while the big game is at leaders Penrhyncoch, who host second-placed Llanuwchllyn.

Both sides won on Wednesday. Will Owen, Meilir Williams and Warren Aykroyd-Duckett scored in Llanuwchllyn’s 3-2 win over third-placed Bow Street, who host Radnor Valley tomorrow.

Penrhyncoch moved 11 points clear with a 4-1 win over Llandrindod Wells,

Llangollen Town head to Dolgellau with boss Luke Maybury more than happy with his side.

“We were determined to turn our form around and the boys have delivered,” said Maybury, who singled out 16-year-old Will Cooke to praise.

“Will has been superb since making that step from youth to men’s football.

“Although he’s a terrific player, his best attribute is his attitude. Trains every week, available every week, never upset when not included in the 11, always doing extra work off the pitch.

“I couldn’t be more proud of him this season.”

Builth Wells - 4-0 winners at Radnor in midweek - go to Llanfair United.
