Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board started its Spring booster campaign last week, aiming to offer around 100,000 of the most vulnerable people in North Wales their latest COVID-19 vaccination.

A booster dose will be offered to those aged 75 years and over; residents in a care home for older adults, and individuals aged 6 months and over who are immunosuppressed.

Vaccination teams are prioritising the eligible groups and have started visiting care homes to vaccinate older adults across the region.

Other people aged 75 and over will be offered a COVID-19 Spring booster at one of the area’s vaccination centres during April, May and June.

I understand appointment letters, which include the location, date and time of their vaccination slot, have already been posted to the first people to be invited. Further rounds of invitations will be issued in priority order over the coming weeks.

People living in Wrexham and the surrounding areas may wish to take note of the location as a new purpose-built vaccination centre for North East Wales has been created in Plas Gororau, which is located on Wrexham Technology Park opposite the Ramada Hotel.

The new facility is due to replace the previous vaccination centre at Wrexham University’s Catrin Finch Centre and as soon as I receive further information, I will let constituents know.

Vaccination remains our key defence for COVID-19 so if you are eligible for the booster, please take up your offer.

At the beginning of the month, a new Welsh Government initiative came into force which aims to further improve our nation’s excellent recycling figures.

Since 6 April, is has become law that all businesses, charities and public sector organisations sort their waste for recycling

Food, glass, paper and card are among the materials that will need to be separated for collection. All the details can be found online.

Wales has a proud record when it comes to recycling. We’re the best in the UK for domestic recycling and third best in the world. These latest measures will build on this success, helping further improve the quality and quantity of recycling from workplaces, which in turn, will help address the climate emergency.
