IT was a sunny afternoon, at last, and what better way to spend it then by having a lovely walk with your daughter and youngest grandson and then rewarding yourself to coffee and a piece of delicious cake.
That's exactly what we did recently and for all the cake lovers out there I would strongly recommend The Cake Kitchen in Chirk.
It is a small cafe but super clean and super friendly and for once the choice of sweet treats was not just restricted to chocolate brownies and lemon drizzle.
There was plenty of choice and plenty of unusual combos.
For me it had to be the plum, damson and pistachio slice with an Americano coffee while my daughter chose a good old cup of tea and an Almond Blondie.
The cake choice was plentiful but for those who don't have a sweet tooth crumpets and homemade soup of the day are also available.
Despite the space being small they were more than happy to accommodate a pushchair and happily brought our drinks over to our table.
My damson/plum and pistachio slice was moist and tasty. The sharpness of the plums and damsons worked well with the nutty pistachio and I was even allowed to try the Blondie, this too was delicious if not a bit too sweet for my taste but not for my daughter who said it was excellent.

As for my coffee, I have to admit I am a bit of a snob and bore my family to death if we go out for a drink and the coffee is not up to my exacting standards.
Thankfully, this was. It was Iron and Fire coffee I believe which I have since learned are speciality coffee bean roasters and suppliers from Shrewsbury.
So for two hot drinks, two pieces of cake in pleasant surroundings, watching the world go by our bill came to just over £10.
The cafe is one of a few cafes/restaurants/eateries in Chirk and it was good to see so many walkers, cyclists and families all out enjoying the sunshine.
Once we had refuelled it was off to the aqueduct/viaduct to take in the amazing views and watch life drift by on the canal.
