MOLD'S annual garden competition will once again be held online this year.

Last year, due to the Covid lockdown, the 'Blooming Mold' competition went online for the first time in 15 years and proved to be very popular with residents, receiving a record number of floral inspired entries.

The competition, organised by Mold Town Council, opens on July 1 and is open to all Mold residents, businesses, organisations and groups.

To enter this year’s competition, organisers are asking you to submit a photograph for judging.

The photograph subject can be anything floral / garden related which has been taken in your garden, backyard or place of work (within Mold).

Whether it be a shrub or floral planter, herb garden, building an insect house, perfecting a wildflower area or maintaining your veg plot, the judges look forward to viewing them (online) and all entries will be shown on the Mold Town Council Facebook page.

The competition will run through to end of September with a winner chosen each month and overall winner at the end of the three months.

Mayor of Mold, Cllr Sarah Taylor, said: “Throughout the pandemic, people have been spending a lot more time at home and enjoying time in their gardens or backyards, many of whom have discovered a new found love and interest in gardening.

"I am looking forward to seeing all the entries from our residents, whether it is a photo of their amazing gardens, carefully tendered flower pot, fish ponds, vegetable plot or hanging baskets. All the photographic entries into this competition will enable us all to enjoy Mold in Bloom together.

"I will be judging all the entries along with our deputy mayor, Cllr Haydn Jones and Graham Wright, from Mold Gardening Club, and I am sure, as with last year’s entries, it is going to prove a difficult task to chose the winners.”

Prizes on offer include:

  • monthly winners will receive £25 worth of Totally Mold Vouchers
  • the overall competition winner will receive £100 of Totally Mold Vouchers

Jane Evans, Mold Town Council events and community engagement officer, said: "This year’s prizes will once again be Totally Mold vouchers, which were a great success last year.

"The aim of Totally Mold vouchers is to help boost our local economy but also to highlight what a fantastic range of shops and services there is in Mold.

"The message to our community is, look at what Mold has to offer before taking your custom outside of the town. All current Totally Mold vouchers are valid until August 31 2021 and our Blooming Mold winners will receive their prize vouchers in October when we relaunch the scheme with vouchers valid until 2022.”

Entering Blooming Mold is quick and easy, just submit one photograph taken in your garden in July, August or September 2021 and send it to Mold Town Council before the month’s deadline. You can submit a maximum of one different photograph for each month.

The monthly competitions are open until the 28th day of each month.
