IT doesn’t get any better than this for the Connah’s Quay Cobras!

They stretched their winning run to 10 matches with a thrilling 12-8 success at home to Blackburn Falcons in the Summer Classic Cup.

Slavomir Sykora and Martin Rybka had Cobras 2-1 up at the first period break.

Falcons turned things around to lead 3-2, with Connah’s Quay levelling again via Sam Plant but three more goals in a frantic few minutes saw Blackburn leading 6-3 at the mid point.

The second period goal-fest continued with strikes from Cobras’ Louis Ellwood and Libor Krempasky to narrow the deficit, but Blackburn hit back with their seventh on 34 minutes.

Cobras upped their game and goals from Louie Bailey and Rybka meant it was, remarkably, tied at 7-7 with one period left to play.

Connah’s Quay fired themselves back into the lead just 20 seconds into the third period with a goal from Stewart Cutting and then two more goals from Rybka handed them a 10-7 lead heading into the last 10 minutes.

A late rally saw another Blackburn strike on 52 minutes, but Martin Stolicny and a fifth from Rybka secured victory.

This was Connah’s Quay’s third win out of three starts in this year’s competition and they have a maximum six points, ahead of Newcastle Predators, who also have a 100 per cent record with two wins.

This Sunday, Cobras host Blackburn Buccaneers in a challenge match (8.30pm face off).
