THE gr-eight winning run has continued for Connah’s Quay Cobras.

They made it two wins out of two in the Summer Classic Cup by picking up a huge scalp with an 8-4 victory away to Blackburn Falcons.

This means Cobras have now won nine games in row in all and they sit proudly top of the group, having already beaten Flintshire Phantoms in their opening game.

Falcons are widely regarded as the top recreation team in the North West and, since their formation back in 1991 when they were originally set up as Blackburn’s official second team, they’ve featured numerous future and former league players.

Connah’s Quay opened the scoring in the third minute through Mike Filek and after Falcons levelled, player-coach Emma Dutton regained the lead.

Blackburn equalised two minutes into the second period and then went ahead with a third goal at the midway point of the game.

Cobras upped their efforts at this point and they were rewarded with three unanswered goals in a dazzling five-minute spell, two from former Deeside Dragon Chris Keating and a second of the night from Dutton.

A sixth Connah’s Quay goal four minutes into the third period, scored by Louis Ellwood, looked to have put the Cobras well on their way to victory, but Blackburn hit back once again to pull the margin back to two goals heading into the final 10 minutes.

Former Slough Jet Stewart Cutting and Keating’s hat-trick strike confirmed the win.

Connah’s Quay Cobras are next in action when they host Blackburn Falcons at Deeside Leisure Centre on Sunday, April 14 (8.30pm).
