PAUL MULLIN admits he has never felt so proud at scoring a goal after putting Wrexham on the way to victory over title rivals Stockport County and a place in the FA Trophy final at Wembley.
The Reds' striker chipped County goalkeeper Ben Hinchliffe from outside the area in the first minute of injury time to give Phil Parkinson's side the lead at The Racecourse before grabbing another goal to clinch a 2-0 win.
The double-taking top scorer Mullin's tally for the season to 21 - came after the frontman squandered a glorious chance earlier in the second half, firing wide when he was one-on-one with Hinchliffe.
Mullin believes he should have tried to lift the ball over the goalkeeper on that occasion and wasn't going to make the same mistake in added time.
"I think it is the proudest I have felt over a goal," said Mullin.
"I missed the chance earlier from the opposite side and it was in my head that I should have gone over the goalkeeper then.
"To execute it on my left-foot from that distance as well, it paid off, but it was eating away at me that I didn't do it with the other chance.
"Thankfully I got another chance and I managed to put it away.
"I try and practice them so I was quite proud when it came off."
Mullin's second goal came in the 94th minute when he shrugged off a defender and again lifted the ball over Hinchliffe before slotting into an empty net.
"We have gone long and I managed to hustle the centre-half off the ball," said Mullin.
"I nipped in before the goalkeeper and lifted the ball over him again.
"I was made-up to get the second goal; that moment sealed the deal and you know you are going to Wembley.
"It is going to be a great day out."
Mullin got the plaudits but he praised goalkeeper Christian Dibble for pulling off some vital saves to keep County at bay.
"We could have been out of the game but Dibs did very well," said Mullin.
"Obviously we missed chances as well but Dibs was brilliant and his saves meant the chance I took was the winning goal."
More than 8,700 supporters saw Wrexham secure a fourth Wembley appearance and co-chairman Ryan Reynolds was also in attendance.
Reynolds made a surprise trip to take in his second game at The Racecourse and Mullin was delighted the Deadpool star got to witness the electric atmosphere, and victory, at the north Wales stadium.
"The owners are really busy people so for Ryan to have the opportunity to come was good for him," added Mullin.
"It was good for him to see The Racecourse rocking when nobody was expecting him to be there.
"He knows that it is not just when they are there that we have a great atmosphere - it is every single game that we have had it this season.
"To seal it with a win was great and give him a day out at Wembley."
