A DISABLED boy from Flintshire desperate for the chance to play outside with his school friends is set to see his dreams come true thanks to kind-hearted Leader readers.
Four-year-old Harley Noble from Bagillt, who suffers from a very rare form of cerebal palsy known as schizencephaly, is unable to play in the playground with his friends at the Cornist Park School in Flint because his parents Christina and Jonathan cannot fit his motorised wheelchair into their car.
Last month the family launched a fundraising campaign to raise the £1,400 needed to buy a specially adapted vehicle and are thrilled to announce they have now smashed their initial fundraising target.
A specially adapted wheelchair accessible Volkswagen Caddy Maxi will be delivered to the family’s home next month.
Mum Christina, 23, said: “I can relax now knowing the car is on its way. It’s such a big relief and weight off my shoulders and it will mean so much more freedom and happiness for our son.
“When we told Harley he would soon be able to take his motorised wheelchair to school he squealed with delight.
"The joy and pleasure on his face really brought tears to my eyes. The future is looking a lot brighter.”
More than 100 people attended a fundraising event at Groove nightclub, Wrexham, last Friday and legions of Leader readers and Flintshire businesses have made donations to the Harley Fund.
Christina added: “I have been overwhelmed with people’s kindness and generosity and to be honest I didn’t expect anything like this.
"I would like to thank Groove nightclub and the DJ, Jamie, who really helped me organise the event.
“There has been so many people who have donated so I would just like to say a massive thanks to everyone who has helped us to achieve this so far.”
The current fundraising total now stands at £4,000 but the family must raise £11,600 to pay for an extension to build a specially adapted bedroom and bathroom for Harley at their home in Cadnant Drive.
Anyone who would like to get involved in the fundraising effort should call Christina on 01352 763100.
