AMID the yellow weather warning of thunderstorms across the UK yesterday, the Met Office has confirmed it was the warmest day so far this year (May 2).
A high of of 22.8C was felt in Hawarden, Flintshire, with the Met Office confirming it was the warmest day of the year for all four home nations.
A temperature of 23.4C was recorded in Santon Downham in Suffolk, beating the previous high of 22.1C from Wednesday, while the temperature hit 20.3C in Castlederg, Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland.
The mercury hit 22.1C in Kinlochewe and Achnagart, beating Wednesday’s high of 21.9C in Aultbea.

The Met Office said: “It’s been the warmest day of the year so far (Thursday, May 2) in all four home nations. England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland all recorded a temperature above 20C.
“But where it stayed cloudy or with a wind off the sea, temperatures were significantly lower than this.”
Over the bank holiday weekend, it is set to be mixed across Wrexham and Flintshire with bright spells and heavy showers to come.
Temperatures will be up to around 16C with lows of 7C overnight.
