TRIBUTES have been paid to Mrs Eunice Davies, of Coedpoeth near Wrexham, a former long-serving journalist with North Wales Newspapers
Mrs Davies, who was 92, died at the Maelor Hospital on Sunday after a very brief illness.
After working in secretarial jobs including at Brymbo steelworks, she began her career in newspapers as a secretary and editorial assistant on the Wrexham Leader, during which time she was responsible, among other duties, for the Chums' Corner children's page.
She worked for the company for many decades, later becoming editor of Country Quest magazine and finally, after retraining on new technology, finishing her career as a news sub-editor.
A native of Coedpoeth, she was married to Mr Oswald Davies, a chartered quantity surveyor and principal lecturer in Building Studies at the then North East Wales Institute, now Wrexham University. He died in 2010 at the age of 81.
After retirement, Mrs Davies continued with her interest in music, as a member for many years of local choir, of St Tydfil's Church, Coedpoeth, and as an active member of various groups including the Cameo Club, the Felin Welsh society and the Coedpoeth Local History Society which had been founded by her late husband.
Her two sons are the prominent Wrexham lawyer and former County Borough Councillor, Mark Davies, who is the senior partner of Hopleys GMA solicitors, and Dr Grahame Davies C.V.O. the writer, former journalist and former long-serving Deputy Private Secretary to King Charles III.
Mrs Davies, with other members of her family, were introduced to King Charles and Queen Camilla at St Giles’ Church in Wrexham when they visited to celebrate Wrexham’s City Status in December 2022.
The funeral will take place at St Mary’s Church, Minera, at 11am on Monday April 29th, with a committal for family only at Pentrebychan crematorium.
