DECISIONS are yet to be made on the future of a much-loved Wrexham church building set to close this month after 150-years in the community.
St James' Church on Rhosddu Road, Wrexham, will close this month following its final service on Sunday, April 21.
There has been much speculation as to what will happen to the building once it has closed.
A spokesperson for the Diocese of St Asaph said: “After the closure of the building of St James’ Church, the Representative Body of the Church in Wales, as owners of the building, will take over the management and care of the building which includes regular inspections and essential maintenance.
"Decisions about the future of the building are made by the representatives of the Trustees of the Representative Body, based on advice from officers, consultees, and members of the elected Property Committee.
"The options considered are based on local circumstances and can include the sale of the building for development purposes or its transfer to community organisations where it is identified there is a need and a viable and sustainable proposal is received.”
The news generated a huge reaction from residents in the area on social media, with most feeling saddened due to their own personal connection with the building.
One individual said: "I got married in this beautiful church. It will be a very sad day the day they close those doors for the final time."
Others shared similar experiences of family generations getting married at the church while many appreciated the building's "photogenic" beauty.
