A WOMAN sadly died following "difficulties" in a river in Wrexham over the weekend, police have confirmed.
Shortly before 9.30am on Saturday morning (December 9), the Welsh Ambulance Service was called to reports of an incident at Felin Puleston, Wrexham.
They attended the scene near Erddig, where they were supported by officers from North Wales Police.
Despite the best efforts of emergency services, North Wales Police confirmed that a woman had died following the incident.
The force says the circumstances are not thought to be suspicious and the coroner's office has been informed.
A North Wales Police spokesperson said: "We were called at 9.28am on Saturday morning (9th December) by colleagues at WAST reporting a female that was in difficulties in the river just off Ruabon Road in Wrexham.
"Officers attended, and sadly the woman had passed away. The family have been informed, as has the local Coroner’s Office.
"The circumstances are not thought to be suspicious. "
A Welsh Ambulance spokesperson said: “We were called on Saturday at 9.17am to reports of an incident at Felin Puleston, Wrexham.
“We sent one emergency ambulance to the scene, where the crew were supported by a Cymru High Acuity Response Unit and an operations manager.
“Advanced critical care support was also delivered by the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service in a Wales Air Ambulance charity car.”
