A MAN has been fined after he admitted walking into a store and taking £30 worth of stock.

John Ithell, of Pentre Gwyn in Wrexham, appeared at Mold Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The 58-year-old admitted that on May 2 he stole five packs of de-wormer from B&M in Wrexham, worth £30.

Patrick Geddes, defending, told the court his client was a man in poor health with an "unenviable" criminal record.

He said the defendant had a "glut of offences" in 2020 following the passing of his mother, when he was heavily using drugs.

Ithell wasn't able to recall the events of the offence, he added, and had "absolutely no reason" to need five packs of de-wormer.

Mr Geddes said the offence hadn't been a sophisticated one, and entailed his client simply walking into the store and going around selecting the items.

He received a fine of £80 and was ordered to pay compensation of £30 to the store, as well as a £34 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
