A FOOTBALL match was held in memory of an "all round good guy" from Wrexham who sadly died of a brain tumour.
Mark 'Weeksy' Weeks' brave battle with terminal cancer came to an end last September.
He hailed from Johnstown, and played for Rhos Aelwyd Football Club - based in nearby Ponciau.
On Sunday (June 26), a memorial match was held in Corwen to help raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Rhos Aelwyd Vets played Corwen Vets for the Mark Weeks Memorial Trophy - with Weeky's former club winning a thrilling encounter 4-3.
Mark's brother, Craig, manages Rhos Aelwyd FC, said: "It was a hugely emotional, but amazing day.
"Thanks so much to everyone who attended and showed their support, and to Corwen FC for being such brilliant opponents."
With the help of Mark's cousin and friend, Ali Alcock, over £10,000 has been raised for Macmillan in his memory. In total, she has raised over £50,000 for the charity over the last five years.
Ali, herself a cancer survivor, has done a host of hair-raising stunts to raise money - including sky diving ooping the loop while wing walking despite her being terrified of heights.
"Ali is an absolute superstar," Craig said.
"What she has done in Mark's memory is nothing short than incredible and I am in awe of her and can't thank her enough."
Paying tribute to his brother, Craig said: "He was the best big brother and uncle anyone could ask for.
"A testament to his character was that people from as far afield as Ireland, Scotland and even Spain attended his funeral - people who I didn't know. He was just an all round good guy who everyone loved, and the life and soul of the party."
Even after his brain tumour diagnoses, Mark would be round Craig's house cutting trees down and doing other jobs.
"That was just the measure of the man," Craig said.
"He never let it get him down, he was laughing and joking until the end."
Mark, a former military man, joined Airbus after leaving the forces and spent the next 20 years there.
"Airbus were absolutely fantastic with Mark during his brain tumour battle," Craig said.
"I can't thank them enough."
