A MAN has died following an incident in Wrexham, police have confirmed.
North Wales Police were called at around 6.30pm on Saturday to an area of undergrowth near to a stretch of the River Gwenfro in the area of Whitegate.
Inspector Luke Hughes said: "At this location [officers] attempted to treat a male who was suffering a medical emergency - he had been located in the water.
"They were soon assisted by North Wales Ambulance Service, however despite their concerted efforts they were unsuccessful and the male subsequently passed away.
"A number of people were in the area and would have seen the police/ambulance activity leading to suspicion as to what had occurred.
"I am aware of rumours circulating on social media that this incident involved a knife and/or was being investigated as a murder.
"This is not the case. Again, please don’t listen to social media gossip. It is rarely factually correct."
