FLORAL tributes have been laid to a “lovely genuine lad” from Flintshire who died in a moped accident.
The teenager, who has been named locally as 18-year-old Luke Edwards, died following a two-vehicle road traffic collision on Nercwys Road in Mold at 11.50am on Wednesday.
Emergency services, including a Wales Air Ambulance, attended the scene of the accident which involved a moped and a Fiat 500 car.
Luke was pronounced dead at the scene. The road was closed at about noon and reopened shortly after 4pm.
Tributes have been flooding in on Facebook for Luke, who worked at Subway in Mold, and floral tributes have been laid on Nercwys Road where the accident happened.
Luke, who was a pupil at Argoed High School at Bryn-y-Baal, near Mold, until 2015, is the son of Bek Edwards, of Treuddyn, and has a younger brother Lewis and younger sister Frankie.
Dicip Odedra, owner of Treuddyn Village Store, said: “This is very sad news. Luke was a really nice guy, to be honest.
“He used to pop in almost every day and he was always polite.
“He was just a normal young man really and has been taken far too young.”
Sgt Emlyn Hughes from North Wales Police Roads Policing Unit is urging any witnesses to the collision in the Tower Lodge area of Nercwys Road to contact the unit on 101 quoting reference V036280.
He said: “The moped was travelling from the direction of Nercwys towards Mold and the Fiat was travelling in the opposite direction.
“Anybody who may have seen either vehicle prior to the collision is also asked to contact us immediately.”
A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called at approximately 11.50am to reports of a road traffic accident involving a motorcycle on Nercwys Road in Mold.
“We sent a paramedic in a rapid response car, two emergency ambulances and two Wales Air Ambulances to the scene.”
