LOCAL SCHOOLS raced through Wrexham Town to promote the Welsh language.
Ras Yr Laith (the language race) aims to raise the profile of the Welsh language, promote physical health and bring together local communities.
Pupils from Ysgol Croes Atti, Ysgol Glanrafon from Flintshire and Ysgol Gwenfro from Wrexham waved their Welsh flags on July 4 as they paraded from The Guildhall around Wrexham town.
Gill Stephen is the Chief Officer at Mentrau Iaith Sir y Fflint a Maelor, who organised this years event.
She said: "Today we were very happy because it was the first time the race had come to this area.
"We were really pleased to see children from both Wrexham and Flintshire and we hope that this will be the first year of many."
There was an opportunity for individuals, families, businesses, clubs, organisations and schools to sponsor to run a stretch of the race.
All the money raised went towards the organisation of the race but any profits will be reinvested in the Welsh language in the form of grants.
Ms Stephen added: "It was particularly nice, not only for Welsh speakers but for everyone because all could join in and celebrate their identity.
"This is not only important for ourselves but also as part of the Welsh Government's efforts to promote the Welsh language."
