A TWO-vehicle accident on the A55 in Flintshire caused long tailbacks for motorists.

The collision happened at Junction 33B on the A494 Mold Road in Ewloe at about 5pm today.

Police closed the A55 exit slip road to the westbound A494 towards Mold but reopened it about two-and-a-half hours later.

Tailbacks were reported to go back for about five miles towards Dobshill and to Drome Corner.

A North Wales Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We received a call at 5.16pm to reports of a two vehicle accident on the A55 westbound.

"Two emergency ambulances were sent to the scene and conveyed two casualties to the Countess of Chester Hospital.

"One of the casualties was a young female with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

"The other was a middle aged-woman who also has serious but not life-threatening injuries."
