IF you like watching cup finals, then Airbus is the place to be tomorrow afternoon.

The North East Wales League’s Premier Division Cup and Two Counties Cup finals take centre stage.

Cup specialists Connah’s Quay Town kick off the action against Penyffordd Lions in the Premier Cup at 1.30pm

“We’ve worked all season to get ourselves here,” said Town boss Gavin Parry, whose side have won the League Cup twice and the Mike Beech Memorial Trophy in the past two seasons.

“With the experience we’ve had in finals recently, we are hoping to use that to our advantage.

“Fingers crossed, we should be at full strength this weekend. We’ve a couple carrying knocks, but we’re hoping that they can shake them off.”

Town go into the game on the back of a 7-0 midweek thrashing of Ruabon Rovers.

Jake Leonard (2), Owen Edwards, Lewis Hodson, Ryan Hewitt, Pascal Gomez and Lewis Harris got the goals to move Town to within two points of long-time leaders Corwen.

Penyffordd, in third place, are also still chasing a league and cup double after an impressive 5-0 win at Caerwys on Tuesday night.

Alister Randles hit a hat-trick and was joined on the scoresheet by Ben Hughes and Matthew Holmes.

Boss Stuart Tunnicliffe, who side also take on Mynydd Isa in next weekend’s Horace Wynne Cup final, said “It’s been a challenging few weeks for us with the number of fixtures we’ve had so we are carrying a few injuries and have had to deal with some suspensions too.

“We have been pushing for the highest league finish possible, but we haven’t been as prepared as we’d like going into two finals.

“Saying that, we have strength in depth as a club and when we’ve needed to call upon players to step up from the reserves team I have been really pleased with their performances.

“We will have late decisions to make but I’m sure we will be able to field a strong team for what I know will be a tough fixture against Connah’s Quay Town.”

Up second on the bill is the Two Counties Cup final between Acton and Aston Park Rangers.

Acton, who have finished third in the Championship after Tuesday’s 4-1 win over Brymbo, go into the game full of confidence.

Top scorer Sam Giles scored from the spot with Seb Kidd (2) and Ryan Jones also on target for Joe Garner’s side.

“Sam’s had a great season for us but we’re used to having good goalscorers at the club as Niall Challoner is our assistant manager and he was massive goalscorer,” said secretary Pete Callaghan, who founded the club with chairman Jason Taylor 13 years ago.

“We won the League Cup in 2019 and it would be great to win it again.”

Acton also had to to play two semi-finals against Rhydymwyn to reach tomorrow’s showpiece event.

Their original last-four tie, which they won on penalties, had to to be replayed after he referee forget to play extra time before taking it to the shoot-out. They then triumphed 2-0 second time around.

Acton will have to watch out for veteran Jonny Crossley.

The 40-year-old vowed to have another season with Rangers - and there’s no sign that he’s letting up just yet.

Crossley is eyeing up potential silverware with Rangers’ boss Chris Foster saying: “Johnny is 40 and he’s still scoring 30 goals-plus.”

Crossley is sure to pose a threat to Acton as is captain Elliott Evans, signed from Rhyl earlier this year.

Rangers have lost five Championship games in a row after they were beaten 4-1 at home by Yr Wyddgrug in midweek.

“We have been really unlucky with injuries the last few weeks,” added Foster. “The lads have saved themselves to play in the final. The squad for Saturday is strong.

“We know they are a good side. It’s going to be a good game, I think.”

Adam Randles scored Rangers’ consolation goal in midweek with Gethin Thomas (2), Tom Price and David Jones hitting back for Yr Wyddgrug, who also had captain Sam Moxley sent off.
