STEVE PARKIN believes fringe players deserve as much credit as the regulars who have guided Wrexham to a second promotion in a row for the first time in the club's history.

Phil Parkinson's men thrashed Forest Green Rovers 6-0 a fortnight ago to guarantee a top-three finish in League Two with two games to spare.

The competition for an automatic promotion place was fierce but Wrexham enjoyed a strong run-in and picked up results when it mattered most.

The likes of leading scorer Paul Mullin and goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo will get the plaudits for their efforts at either end of the pitch but assistant manager Parkin insists players out of the side have been key to the success story.

"Special praise should go to players that have not been in the team," said Parkin.

"We train practically every day and there are times when the players who have played on a Saturday do practically nothing on a Monday, and the group that me, Dave Jones and Aidan Davison take have been absolutely fantastic.

"They should take as much credit as the lads that play because they have played a massive part in driving the team on.

"It has definitely been a squad performance and it has definitely been a squad year."

Wrexham complete the season against rivals Stockport County at The Racecourse on Saturday.

The pressure is off going into the final day showdown having already booked their place in League One next season but Parkin says the Reds are eager to get one over the champions and register a fifth successive win.

"It is really nice to get to this stage of the season and be promoted with two games to go which is remarkable," added Parkin.

"We would like to win the last game, without any question, as I am sure Stockport would.

"To talk about what we might do next season is completely wrong.

"I think the key thing for us is to enjoy the moment, enjoy the summer and be well prepared."
