PROMOTION is guaranteed going into Saturday's clash with rivals Stockport County and Phil Parkinson praised his players and staff for ensuring it's not a must-win game for Wrexham on the final day of the League Two campaign.

Wrexham go into the match at The Racecourse safe in the knowledge that they have already clinched a top-three finish along with the Hatters who have been crowned champions.

The pressure is off after securing back-to-back promotions for the first time in the club's history and although Parkinson is targeting a fifth victory in a row, he says everyone can enjoy the occasion.

"When the fixtures came out, everyone said 'wow, that could be an absolute crunch game'," said the Reds' boss.

"It is credit to the work that everybody's done that it's a game we can go into and enjoy the occasion."

Wrexham beat Stockport 3-0 in the penultimate fixture in the 2021-22 season to take the race for the National League title down to the final game but the Hatters eventually prevailed.

Parkinson's men achieved the same feat following a record-breaking 2022-23 campaign and with both teams celebrating another promotion this time together, he is looking forward to the Reds continuing their rivalry with the Hatters in League One.

"Stockport were ahead of us in that progression in terms of building and we were playing catch-up with them when they won the league," said Parkinson.

"Now we have both got promoted and the challenge next season will be to compete with them again next year.

"Dave Challinor is a very good manager with great staff, they have done a lot of things well like we have.

"We will look forward to the weekend but also look forward to renewing our rivalry with them in League One."
