A MAN has been handed a community order for pushing his dad on his pacemaker.

Michael Shepherd, of Grosvenor Road, Wrexham, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

The 37-year-old had been convicted at a previous hearing of assaulting his father, David Shepherd, in Buckley.

Hannah Williams, prosecuting, told the court that on June 6, police received a call from the defendant's mother.

She said the defendant had pushed his father to the chest, on his pacemaker, causing him to fall and causing him considerable pain.

The victim went to the hospital to be checked over, and fortunately no injuries or damage to the pacemaker were caused in the incident.

Ceri Lewis, defending, said at the time, her client was "fully reliant" on his parents but has since been receiving support which has "allowed him to stand on his own two feet."

The Leader:

She explained: "Now he's in receipt of benefits, which will enable him to move forwards, and he's hoping to get some independent living.

"Michael's only wish is to have contact with his parents - and the parents do wish to have contact with him, but on a phased basis.

"He would welcome help from the probation service and did express remorse throughout."
